The pavilion in the zoo Lešná
Petrík, Tomáš ; Puchner, Josef (referee) ; Šmak, Milan (advisor)
The subject of the diploma thesis is a processed design of a steel construction of a pavilion shaped by spherical segments. The pavilion has exhibition purpose as a part of the zoological garden Lešná, and is intended for African beasts. The design meets architectonical requests - roundness and luminosity. A shape of the pavilion consists of three intersecting cupolas with a frontal curved cut out for glass facade. Construction of the pavilion consists of the radial arranged arched ribs with transversal bars, which are supplemented by horizontal purlins. Forehead of the pavilion is formed by columns and girts. Cladding is designed in combination: aluminum profile and insulated glass. Comparison of alternative steel structure solutions is also a part of the diploma thesis.
Roman spa - sauna world
Trávníček, Jiří ; Myslín, Jiří (referee) ; Dýr, Petr (advisor)
The subject of this thesis is an architectural study of Roman spa and sauna world that connects seamlessly to a specialized atelier with theme Aquacentre - "Water Temple" Brno. The project is located to the upper floors front cupola waterpark, which is composed of monolithic reinforced concrete skeleton and its building envelope brings arched laminated wood trusses. The main task was to create the interior space. The source of inspiration was the whirlpool, which is transcribed into the design of furniture.
Structure Design of Exhibition Pavilion
Ruček, Martin ; Šmak, Milan (referee) ; Hron, Lukáš (advisor)
Concern of my thesis is to design the main load carrying structure of an exhibiton pavilion. The pavilion itself has circle shaped footprint, 55 m in diameter. Height of the building is then 15 m. The main structure consists of planar truss elements with generally curved upper and lower chords. The web of main truss element is designed as a perforated steel wall. Structural analysis and dimension design of main truss element is realised via axis model with rigid nodes, and verified on an accurate numerical model of a truss with web modelled as a perforated steel wall. Building is designed to be situated at exhibition area of Olomouc city. Design involves all the critical cross sections, and also selected mounting joints.
The multipurpose building in Plzeň
Perhalová, Anna ; Straka,, Bohumil (referee) ; Šmak, Milan (advisor)
The subject of this diploma thesis is design and static assessment of timber load bearing structure of multipurpose building in Plzeň. It is cupola consited of two radial curved ribs above a triangle ground plan with one oval edge. I got this shape by cutting the cupola vertically on these two triangle edges and that created two walls of the construction. The largest ground plan dimension of load bearing structure is 54,4 meters and the maximum height is +18,0 meters. The design is processed in two various drafts.
Daylighting of spaces with light guides
Machová, Petra ; Gábrová, Lenka (referee) ; Vajkay, František (advisor)
This thesis deals with the illuminance space through light guide. It describes it's basic principles, technical features and ways of differentiation between the technologies. The thesis also includes latest methods for evaluation of illumination of space supported by various computer simulations.
Planetarium
Sokolová, Eva ; Šmak, Milan (referee) ; Barnat, Jan (advisor)
The master’s thesis object is to create a design of a load carrying steel structure planetarium. Its ground plan dimensions are 36,1 x 49,0 m. The planetarium hall’s roof is designed with system of trusses and purlins. The projection hall’s roof consists of ribbed cupola with radially arched ribs. The stiffness of the whole construction is ensured with bracings. The walls of the whole object are composed of columns, rails and bracings.
The structure of a planetarium in Šumperk
Nosková, Denisa ; Barnat, Jan (referee) ; Šmak, Milan (advisor)
The subject of this bachelor thesis is the design and the review of a planetarium framework over the circular ground plane. The frame is considered as hemisphere shaped with a diameter of 26 meters. The dome concept is designed in several variants, such as Schwedler dome -first grade, second grade and modified, as well as a geodesic dome and Föppel dome. Each of the variants is designed of steel and of timber made of laminated wood.

Symbol of democracy? Changes in perception of the Reichstag Building after 1990.
Nováková, Tereza ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Emler, David (referee)
The topics of the bachelor thesis are the symbolic meanings connected to the representative architecture, and also the discussion and its participants that influence the process of creating new symbolic meanings. Representative buildings still pose symbols for members of the nation and help to establish the national identity. They also reflect historical events and are bearers of cultural memory, which is also besides other aspects created by political representatives. The subject of this research is the Reichstag building in Berlin, which, in the past, was associated with both positive and negative connotations in connection with the transformation of its appearance and function. The aim of my thesis is to outline the discussion that took place in the 1990s and to introduce its actors who gave the building its present appearance. The paper presents important turning points for the reconstruction, first being the colloquia on the topic of rebuilding of the Reichstag building and reconstruction requirements in the tender, and secondly the dispute over the cupola of the Reichstag and the artistic project "Wrapped Reichstag". By both of these events would be introduced the arguments for and against in order to describe how symbolic meanings should be attached to the building after reconstruction. In...
